Configuration

Voktty stores application preferences with the Tauri store plugin and stores provider secrets through the native keychain integration. Settings are scoped to the application unless a feature explicitly persists workspace or space state.

AI providers

Open Settings > AI to configure the provider, model, endpoint and optional instructions. Supported cloud providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, Cerebras, Groq, DeepSeek, Mistral and OpenRouter. The OpenAI-compatible option can target a custom service.

Local and offline options include LM Studio, MLX and Ollama. These providers use local OpenAI-compatible endpoints and are allowed by the network proxy because the user has explicitly configured the endpoint.

API keys never go into the settings store, localStorage or project files. On macOS and Windows they use the operating system keychain. Linux uses the protected fallback described in Data and storage.

Terminal and appearance

The terminal has independent preferences for font size, renderer behavior, shell input mode and tab layout. The theme engine controls the application chrome, pane surfaces and terminal palette. Optional window vibrancy affects the native frame and is not the same as making the terminal canvas transparent.

The editor has its own font size and an independent editor theme. In auto mode, the editor follows the active application's light or dark pairing. An explicit editor theme overrides that pairing.

Editor services

Formatting is opt-in and uses an external formatter registry. Built-in registrations cover Biome, Prettier, Ruff, rustfmt, gofmt, clang-format, shfmt and Zig fmt, plus a custom command template. Format-on-save never replaces an editor buffer that changed after the save snapshot.

Language servers are opt-in. Voktty detects supported binaries, starts sessions only for open documents and stops idle sessions after a timeout. If no root marker exists, no language-server session is created.

Spaces

Spaces group a project root, environment, color and tab layout. Switching spaces restores the saved tabs and working directories without changing the global application preferences.

Extensions

The Extensions settings section lists extensions found under the user extension directory. An extension can be enabled, disabled, reloaded or deleted from the UI. Extension activation is delayed until after the first render and is bounded by a five-second timeout so one broken extension does not block the application.

Notifications and agents

The Agents settings surface controls terminal-agent hooks and notification delivery. Voktty can surface attention, completion and error events as native notifications, in-app toasts or the notification bell depending on focus and visibility.

Resetting preferences

Prefer the settings UI when resetting one preference. If the application cannot start because an extension blocks initialization, disable the active extension ids in the app's store file, then restart. Do not delete keychain entries unless you intentionally want to remove provider credentials.
