Settings reference

Settings are exposed through the dedicated Settings window. The exact form can grow without changing the core storage contracts below.

General

General settings cover application language, startup behavior, updates, notification delivery and window behavior. The app bundle id is dev.voktty.app.

Terminal

Terminal settings include shell selection, terminal font size, terminal input mode, renderer behavior, scrollback and block-oriented input preferences. The terminal font size is separate from the editor font size.

Editor

Editor settings include:

  • font size;
  • Vim mode;
  • tab size and indent unit detection;
  • formatter defaults and per-language formatter overrides;
  • format-on-save;
  • editor theme or auto theme pairing;
  • AI autocomplete mode, provider and model;
  • language-server activation and custom server definitions.

AI

AI settings choose provider, model, base URL, custom instructions, agent persona, autocomplete model, speech-to-text provider and voice behavior. Keys are not stored in this settings surface. They are resolved by the Rust keychain bridge.

Themes

Theme settings select a built-in or custom application theme, background image, opacity, blur and the independent editor theme. Theme values are validated before CSS variables are applied.

Source control

Source-control settings control changed-file presentation, such as a flat list or tree projection. Git operations themselves are not configured by silently executing shell commands; they go through the Rust command layer.

Extensions

The Extensions section shows discovered extension metadata, enabled state, activation errors and reload or delete actions. Extension ids are persisted separately from extension source code.

Agents

Agent settings configure launcher commands for terminal coding agents, hook installation status and notification behavior. Voktty-owned hooks preserve foreign configuration and can be enabled per agent.

Persistence rules

Data Storage
Provider secrets OS keychain, or protected Linux fallback
App preferences Tauri store plugin
AI session metadata and messages Tauri store under voktty-sessions.json
Enabled extension ids Tauri store under voktty-extensions.json
SSH connection metadata Workspace or settings store, without active session ids

See Data and storage for the security implications of each location.
